Don't forget your SWEETESTon Sweetest Day--Saturday, October 18th, with a bouquet just to remind someone special just how sweet they truly are!!! Sweetest Day is mainly a regional observance celebrated in the Great Lakes (Yeah...Chicago!!!) region & the Northeast. It seems many take the Sweetest Day tradition with them when they relocate. Ohio is the top state for Sweetest Day gifting, followed by Michigan & Illinois. Texas, California & Florida are among the top 10 states in gifts. Sweetest Day is observed on the 3rd Saturday in the month of October. The observance of Sweetest Day originated in Cleveland in 1922. Herbert Birch Kingston, a philanthropist & candy company employee desired to bring happiness into the lives of orphans, shut-ins & others who may have been forgotten. He began to distribute candy & small gifts to the underprivelged with help from some friends. On the first Sweetest Day, movie star Ann Penningtonpresented 2,200 Cleveland newspaper boys with boxes of candy to show her gratitude for their service to the public. Theda Bara, another popular movie star, distributed 10,000 boxes of candy (I guess she won) to people in Cleveland hospitals & also gave candy to those who came to watch her film in a local theatre. Thanks for taking the time to read this. We appreciate your business, Chicago!!!!!
