Be the first to show your Boss just how much you do appreciate him/her this Bosses' Day on Thursday, October 16th. Every year National Boss Day is on October 16th. If the holiday falls on a weekend, it is generally celebrated on the next closest business day. National Boss Day began in 1958 when Patricia Bays Haroski, at that time an employee of State Farm Insurance Company in Deerfield, IL., registered the holiday with the Chamber of Commerce of the United States of America. She designated October 16th as the special day because it was her father's birthday. Ms. Haroski's purpose was to designate a day to show appreciation for her boss as well as other bosses. She also hoped at that time to improve the relationship between employees and supervisors. She believed younger employees may not often realize the challenges bosses face day-to-day in running a business. (Thanks for reading this, Chicago!)
